Nineteen sixtyfour audio4/2/2023 ![]() ![]() The Monarch graph looks better there, and eq-ing Clairvoyance to that, confirms it. Like the extreme upper end is there, but the frequencies just before it have been scooped out. Or, High-hats play the sound "tssssp" instead of "tsshhp". Like, in case of a husky female vocals, you hear the husk, but not what led to it. ![]() Though Clairvoyance has a better lower end tonality (IMO), it also loses at the soundstage and instrument separation in doing so.Ĭlairvoyance is also not smooth in it's treble response. So, anyone considering these, should be looking for instrument separation, width/depth of the soundstage and imaging above music itself.Īnd in that, Monarch will take crown (as seen from eq-ing Clairvoyance to the response of Monarch). It is, however, at the cost of the natural tonality of instruments, and a chunky body. This clarity will improve the width, depth, imaging and also instrument separation. So, clearing out this spectrum coupled with a rise in the upper frequencies brings in a sense of clarity. Now, this will happen in all kinds of music, but more noticeable/concerning when there are just a few acoustic instruments.īut, when there are a lot of instruments/samples/voices, this spectrum gets crowded and finds itself like a overlapped mess with information from so many instruments. This will happen more so on the Monarch than the Clairvoyance, but, neither will really take the cake here. The notes decay almost immediately once they are sung/played on the Clairvoyance. When I switch between Clairvoyance and FLC8S, all that I'm saying is clearly noticeable. ![]() Now, I don't listen to acoustic music so I just searched for acoustic songs and came across. They will sound clean, wide and a little deep, but the cost of all that I mention above. So, the kind of tuning that these have will not do justice to acoustic instruments or music. The reverb used on these tracks have important sense of atmosphere between 100-500 Hz. The resonance/ring on instruments like acoustic guitar, toms on drums etc. Most played fundamental frequencies on most acoustic instruments range from 100Hz to 500Hz.Ģ. ![]() Here's the reasoning behind my primary view.ġ. Now, to share my views, I don't think either of these can be recommended for people who listen to acoustic music.Įven, between the two, I don't think Clairvoyance is an easy pick, as I explain later in the post. the wide soundstage, instrument separation, resolution, layering, I find that the tonality has not been pressed upon enough. However, while I agree to most what has been written. To begin with, I feel Crin and BGGAR are actually saying the same thing.Ĭlairvoyance has been rated higher than Monarch for it's TONE by Crin.Īnd what I understood as the reason, is pretty much in line with what BGGAR feels. Not to say I disagree on the analysis posted by most, rather how I feel about them. Although it was not to my taste, it was not enough to spoil the enjoyment of the superb reading and interpretation of the words of Orwell delivered by Glennister.Ok, so my take on these is a little different. I like classical music and I like audio books but not combined! I found it irksome and didn't appreciate the interruption to the flow of the narration. The only negative, in my opinion, is the classical music that plays inbetween chapters. I doubt that his reading of this classic novel can be surpassed. In particular, his soft Irish O'Brien brought the character alive for me. Philip Glennister's narration is first class. It's a thought provoking tale of manipulative social engineering and the loss of both freedom of speech and thought. It is as applicable to modern society as it was when first written. It's some years since I read 1984 and the surprise about this novel is how it has retained its relevance since it's first publication. Excellent narration brings 1984 alive in 2009 ![]()
